COLLECTIONS

Reference
All collection that falls under categories of encyclopedias, dictionaries, thesauruses, almanacs, yearly books, acts, directories,  terms books, atlases, gazetteers etc. This kind of collection cannot be taken out of the library building thus it is only made possible for in-house reference. Patrons may access all this collections at level 1(Reference Collection Shelves).

Open Stack / General Collection
The open stack collection consists of books of various subjects acquired to support learning, teaching and research needs of the University. All academic staff, students and valid registered members of the Library are allowed to borrow from this collection. The shelves are located at level 2 and level 3. A - N collections are located at level 2 and P - Z collections are located at level 3.

Red Spot
The most important collection at the library due to the amount of it is small. The collections are also marked as the main reference for a related subject that reported by the faculty lecturers. Patrons may lend this kind of collections at the main service counters.

Anak Kandung Collections

Collections that created by Anak Kandung (students during the early ages of SITC). Consist of reports, articles, project papers and etc. These collections can be found at special collection shelves at level 2. Click here for full list of Anak Kandung collections.

Thesis and Dissertations
Thesis and dissertations are the earning of researches done by UPSI students in order for them to get their diplomas, bachelor degrees, master degrees or doctoral degrees. Patrons may access these collections at the Thesis Room (Level 2).

University’s Archives

University’s Archives are collections that the university published from time to time. All of these published materials must be sent to the library to be set keeping as university’s archives collection. Item that falls under this category are such as souvenirs, guide books, yearly report books and etc. These collections shelves at the Special Collection (Level 2).


Illicit or Limited Collection

It is actually antiquarian, limited and illicit materials that need to be stored as specific references. Letter of authorization from Unit, Department or Faculty is needed in order to hold access to these collections. Limited collections is shelved at level 2 while illicit or restricted collections is at level 3.

Newspapers
The library subscribed to a number of national newspapers such as those write in Bahasa Malaysia, English, Tamil and Chinese. These newspapers are located at level 2 (Latest Journal Collection section).


Magazines or recent journal
Magazines or journal published from either Malaysia or overseas that the library subscribed. The latest collections are shelved at the latest journal racks, however patron has to request from the main counter for the backdated collections within the same year as the current year. All collections that published before the current year are bounded and shelved at the racks at level 2.

Pamphlet / Brochure
Pamphlet and brochure are collections that include souvenirs, guide books, prospectuses and other printed matter. Patrons may get these pamphlets at the library’s front entrance.

Media Sources Collections
This includes compact discs, gramaphone records, laser discs, films, maps, slides, audio and video cassettes, kits, transparencies and etc. User may access these materials at level 4.


Online Databases
The library has subscribed online databases and e-journals in order to provide users with the most latest of readily available information sources. Patrons may access this service at our Electronic Databases Room located at level 2.


Malaysian Education Collections

We are committed to be a lead provider of Malaysian Education collections. To achieve that, we collected all kinds of material such as text books, articles, papers from seminars, workshops, memorandums and circulars, newspaper cuttings, and etc. These will be provided to ease patrons when doing referencing. These collections are located in the Koleksi Pendidikan Malaysia (KPM) Room at level 2.


Microfilm
Microfilm resources in the library, consists of newspaper and magazines since 1887 - 1960,
such as Jawi Peranakan published in 1887 - 1895. This collection displays old writing style that sustain newspaper and magazine's identity in film reel format. Fields of study are includes: History, Education, Social Sciences, Economic, Literature and Language. Click here for full title list.
